MLB PICKS MAY 10 - ST LOUIS CARDINALS VS PITTSBURGH PIRATES PICK & ANALYSIS

May 10, 2019

MLB EXPERT PICKS - FULL ANALYSIS ATTACHED

PITTSBURGH PIRATES MONEYLINE: 1 UNIT (+144)

Yes, the Pirates got slaughtered yesterday with an awful performance by Joe Musgrove, but we are not hesitating to support them again with Trevor Williams on the mound. The Pirates only used 4 pitchers and none of their premiere relievers in the route, which was a large part of the reason the score got to where it was. Williams has been a stabilizing force for this pitching staff and they will have a full rested pen behind him tonight. The Pirates also got dominated 14-1 last week by the Athletics, before sending Williams out the next day to calm the storm in a 6-4 bounce back win. This is a pitching play and we are supporting Williams to once again lead the Pirates to a rebound game after an embarrassing loss.

37-year-old Adam Wainwright is at the tail end of his career. He has been sub-par this season and has inferior metrics compared to Williams. His HR's allowed metrics are through the roof and more than twice Williams'. His walk rate is twice as high, opposing batters are hitting .250 against him and his 1.35 WHIP places him in the lower-echelon of MLB starting pitchers. Wainwright hasn't pitched into the 7th inning since April 2018 and was tagged for a season-high 6 runs in his last outing versus the Cubs.

Let's not be shortsighted after an embarrassing loss. The Pirates are still 5-2 in their last 7 games (71.4%), while the Cardinals are 2-6 in their last 8 games (25%). The Pirates are also 5-2 in Williams' last 7 games (71.4%) and 5-2 in their last 7 games versus NL Central rivals (71.4%).
